Clear the Deck Competition Format

Continuous Scoring format – The base scoring format is to continue scoring until you have your third open. Scoring concludes after three opens.

• A Strike is worth 25 points (12 strikes in a row is still 300)
• A Spare is the first ball count plus 10 points (examples: 6/spare is 16 … 9/spare is 19 … 3/spare is 13 … zero/spare is 10)
• An open is the total pin fall for the 2 shots (same as traditional scoring)

The scoring format is adaptable to other rules to accommodate different circumstances.
You can change the number of opens
You can set a number of frames
You can even use time as a starting and stopping point.
The base scoring format of three opens is based on a BowlU training and development program. One open can be unlucky, we will even give you two opens as unlucky, but once you have had three opens its time to stop and figure out what’s going on. BowlU uses the combination of “Clear The Deck” competition format and the “To Be Ready” format as Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for our International Competition & Training Initiative. To Be Ready Competition Format

The To Be Ready Competition format was designed to train the ability “to be ready” to be your best when you need it the most. To Be Ready is a match play competition where we use traditional scoring, but we only use the 9th and 10th frames. The intensity of the To Be Ready competition runs on high. When you get to the highest level of competition, we expect the score to be close when we get to the 9th and 10th frames. The first 8 frames are just setting the stage for the most exciting moments of competition. Instead of hoping the competition we guarantee the competition is close. Every match is tied going into the 9th and 10th frames. By removing the first 8 frames of competition we have the time to make the match play a “best of seven” double elimination bracket format. We use the “Clear the Deck” competition to establish the seeding of a 16-team double elimination bracket. Obviously, the To Be Ready format is adaptable to whatever the circumstances may be. For BowlU development purposes we chose this format because when a person loses a match play game it can feel unlucky or unfortunate based on many things. When you lose a best of seven match you have time to regroup, but after you lose a second best of seven match, it is time to stop and figure out what went wrong.
